The DMPS Social Studies Department is organizing the 4th trip to the nation’s capital for DMPS 8th graders. These students will have an opportunity to spend a week exploring Washington DC during spring break (March 15-19).

Students at 35 Des Moines schools and three learning centers can now eat breakfast and lunch at no cost because of a special U.S. Dept. of Agriculture program targeting high poverty schools throughout the U.S. The move will ensure students are focused on learning and not on hunger. Before Meredith Middle School students departed for summer vacation, they made sure their newly-planted trees would continue to grow. The kids made drip buckets to help keep the trees watered throughout the summer. Click on the picture to learn more.

More than 150 middle school students were honored on-stage at North High School for outstanding achievement in a variety of categories. Each DMPS Middle School was represented at the 1st Annual Stellar Awards and each student took home a standing plaque and a book, highlighting the quality recognized that evening.
