7th Grade Students Study Expansion of Civil Rights

7th grade students are exploring the various ways in which groups secure their civil rights. Students recently visited the Ft. Des Moines Museum and Education Center to launch this study. Michael Kates, Museum Director, engages the students in a “drill” activity typical of what the first African-American military officer candidates would have experienced on this same site in 1917.
