Meredith Middle School is in the process of becoming a candidate for participation in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. This section of our web site provides background and information about the IB/MYP, and the educational opportunity it will provide to students.

What is the MYP?

The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) started the Middle Years Programme (MYP) in 1987 and first made the program available in 1994.  The MYP serves as a framework for presenting curriculum, so the IBO does not dictate a curriculum to its schools; schools will follow local, state, and national guidelines.

IBO Mission Statement

The IBO suggests that their organization “promotes intercultural understanding and respect, not as an alternative to a sense of cultural and national identity but as an essential part of life in the 21st century.”

This philosophy is captured in their mission statement:

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and mores peaceful world through intercultural education and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
